The Cobra King Supersport-35 putter was released in 2020 and was a breakthrough in technology that is about to be implemented in a widely released iron, the Cobra 3DP Tour. The putter was developed in collaboration between Cobra Golf, HP, and Parmatech. They used HP’s Metal Jet 3D printing technology which allowed for the creation of a complex lattice structure within the putter’s head. They were able to provide a high Moment of Inertia (MOI) that you typically can only get in a mallet style putter, but they did it in a blade style putter, which many golfers prefer. The ability to customize the design allowed for optimization of the weight distribution which maximized stability and forgiveness.
One of the key features of the Supersport-35 putter, aside from the unique 3D printing technology utilized was SIK Golf’s face structure referred to as Descending Loft Technology or DLT. This face layout has four descending loft angles, starting at 4 degrees at the top down to 1 degree at the bottom. The goal is that the face will strike the ball on a different lofted section based on how much shaft lean applied to the putter. In other words, if you have a lot of forward press shaft lean, delofting the putter, you will wind up striking the top plank which has a higher native loft. The combination of delofting the club manually and the elevated loft of the plank results in consistent launch angles and roll.
People’s reviews of using the putter claimed exceptional forgiveness, particularly on middle and longer putts. They found the putter to be very stable on misheats, with little twisting off-line and very consistent roll-out distances.
The Cobra King Supersport-35 allowed for the demonstration of what could be possible with the new 3D printing club technology. High performance and very customized equipment was possible.
