Temu Putter – LAB DF3 lookalike – Review

Temu recently listed a new putter under the brand name Taking. The putter looks identical to a Lab DF3, the most popular putter among amateurs right now. A genuine Lab DF3 costs $450 new and they aren’t that much cheaper used, given the high demand. The Temu putter is around $140.

While I don’t like cheap copies taking away business from the original, for whatever reason, I find knock offs / dupes fascinating. There are so many unsubstantiated claims about the products coming from China. In the case of the Lab putters, though, these clearly are not coming from the same factory as the originals, as my understanding is the originals are manufactured in the USA.

The Temu listing provides a lot of details, but so a few important details are lacking. I ordered one to play around with, so hopefully I can fill in those missing details.

First of all, the putter head looks like a DF3 with different badging. The ball gimmie grabber works. The face is milled. It has eight weights with the grams marked on each weight. Unlike Lab, this putter encourages you to play around with the weights. They include a wrench and two 4g weights. As there aren’t any 4g weights in the head to start with, I’m guessing they are to swap out with the 2g weights to make the putter heavier, or swap out the 8g or 9g weights to make the putter lighter.

But the big question is – is it Lie Angle Balanced? Unfortunately, without a revealer there is no way to know. I plan to build one, test it, and update this page once I do.

Aside from the weights being marked and easily swappable, the grip is not a press grip, but a standard pistol putter grip. Also, there is less shaft lean compared to a DF3, possibly even no shaft lean.

It does feel lie angle balanced, but I’m not an expert. It feels similar to the DF3 I’ve used, both in swing and contact.

Here’s a video. Unfortunately, it does not come with a headcover. It only comes in 35″ and they don’t specify the lie angle. It feels similar to my 69° Lab Df 2.1 I’ve been practicing with. It comes in a few different colors as well.
